Happy Friday the 13th. Another football season it upon us, it appears. Not only have over half of last week’s countdown entries been completely replaced, many have been replaced with football teams of both national league and national collegiate athletic stripe. What has not changed, at all, is the top 3, which is something of a rarity week-to-week. The Boys are still on top, if only by a hair this time, followed by recent long running favorites the esteemed Mr. Bieber and Lady Gaga.
Rush manages to avoid the cut by jumping up a few spots to #4, but after that, it’s all “new” faces, some a bit newer than others. Drake returns to the countdown after an absence to round out the top 5. He’s followed by some powerhouse college football, as Buckeyes and Razorbacks fans are obviously ready for the season to begin.
That brings us to a countdown newcomer, and first “animated” countdown entrant, the Gorillaz. If that doesn’t make any sense to you, just look them up on Wikipedia. While I don’t recommend Wikipedia for tips on open heart surgery, it’s gangbusters at explaining how the front man for the band Blur hooked up with one of the creators of the comic Tank Girl (she has a tank) to create a “virtual band”. Then you can marvel at the fact the fictional biographies of each individual band member are larger than those of many prominent historical figures.
The Saints squeeze in between the other countdown newcomer, Maroon 5. The LA based rock band is releasing a new album, Hands All Over, next month, and touring to promote the release.
